july 12. 2007 crafting and signing
When I arrived at Nana & Papa's to pick her up, she and Nana were color in her Care Bear Coloring Book and I just couldn't resist taking some pictures of her and Nana. Later on she decided to tell us about a butterfly that she encountered on our hike last weekend. I have documented that story through the collage below. You can see more of those pictures at the following link:

The Story of the Butterfly, by Amelia
Last weekend we went to Forest Falls, California and Amelia encountered her first real life butterfly. I wish I was running video instead of stills, but I was able to capture the moment. She is verbally telling this story as well as using sign language. Here is the synopsis:
The first photo in this series shows how concerned she was about the butterfly. She was actually very frightened by it. I think she thought that is might sting her like a bee. She even said that the butterfly was no bee and that it was safe.
The second & third photos here are her telling us that when daddy told her that the butterfly was okay she was able to watch it fly and see how pretty it was. I love the wonderment in her eyes in the second photo.
The fourth photo is her contemplating and thinking about what happened next.
The fifth photo is telling us that the butterfly flew away.
The final photo is her telling us that she then went to throw rocks into the creek.

on July 14, 2007Beautiful, beautiful - photos and text! The story of the butterfly captured on film brought tears to my eyes - the innocense, and the beauty of my little granddaughter - how grateful I am that I get to spend time with her - forever Nana memories!! (Papa too!!!) I wish somehow the butterfly pictorial could be published - both the photos and the text would touch hearts.
